Sydney, Australia
Robert Dickerson, born Sydney, Australia in 1924, is one of Australia's leading figurative artists.
Since he sold his first painting to the National Gallery of Victoria in 1954 he has established a major reputation on the art scene and held his first solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne in 1956.
By using exquisite brush strokes or pastel lines he creates intense emotion in the expressions of his subjects. The many subjects are descriptive and expressive and intrigue their audience with a mystery in every work that are beautiful and haunting - but no two are alike.
After 30 years of faces and places Robert is one of Australia's most highly sought after artists. He has never felt inspired to paint myths or legends preferring to paint "real" subjects of people in the working world.
His work is represented in all the major public art galleries in Australia, many regional galleries and numerous private collections in Australia and overseas.
Inspired by artists such Manet, Degas, Picasso, Monet, Daumier and Goya, Dickerson joins the list of artists whose impact on the society of their day ensures that they are written into the art history books for all time.
